Fanning

Tea fanning are little particles of tea left behind when higher grade tea are going through the production process.

Tea masters used to consider them as by-products of tea.

Because of how fine they are, they are sometimes also referred to as tea dust.

Yet because even the finest of tea leaves produce fanning, tea brewed with fanning originating from premium tea can still be more flavorful than lower grade tea.

This has been the driving force behind less expensive tea bags filled with premium tea… fannings.

When we find premium tea packed in tea bags in supermarkets, those are mostly made with premium tea fanning.

They are not considered as premium tea leaves, but can taste very similar.
