Grooming

The term grooming is often used to describe the manual adjustments made to coffee grounds in the basket after the beans have went through the grinder, and before being inserted into the group head.

The concept of coffee grooming comes from the logic that spreading the grounds evenly in the basket would aid a more even flow of water, and result in a more even espresso.

The argument against this is that once the extract is collected in the demitasse, they blend together and become even. So grooming is more of an act to make baristas look like they really care about the coffee. read more

Naked Shot

A naked shot is an expression used to describe an espresso that has been brewed  with the typical espresso machine, except that the portafilter bottom has bee drilled out.

This allows the coffee to be directly dispensed from the group head to the basket and finally into the cup.

Green coffee is an industry term used to describe raw unroasted coffee beans.

It has no reference to fresh, organic, or healthy coffee products.

Unroasted coffee beans got this name tagged to it because raw coffee that have been harvested have a greenish hue to them before being processed. read more
