Flowering Tea

Flowering tea are balls of tea leaves that “bloom” in the teapot.

Primarily produced in China, craftspeople with incredible finger abilities that fingersmiths would be proud of twist and turn tea leaves into these tea balls that are no more than 3cm in diameter.

Also known as blooming tea, the flavor depends on what types of tea leaves and flowers are packed into these balls of magic.

The order in which they are put together will determine how the bloom will look like.

Instead of using an infuser, all a person needs to do is to drop a ball of these things into a teapot or teacup.

In a matter of minutes, the ball opens up like a flower in bloom while the flavor and aroma starts to diffuse into the hot water.

With the creative work that such presentation can bring, it’s no surprise that there are particular styles that have particular symbolic meaning.
